She has received six CFDA awards, and was the first U.S.-based designer to receive Fashion Group International’s Superstar award. Karan conceived and spearheaded the CFDA’s Seventh on Sale benefits for AID’s Awareness, co-chairs the annual New York Kids for Kids events for the Elizabeth Glazer Pediatric AIDS Foundation and underwrites an annual benefit for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. Her Urban Zen initiative, founded in 2007, creates a working structure for advancing well-ness and empowering children. After 10 years as a successor to the late Anne Klein, Karan opened her own business in 1984. It was acquired in 2001 by LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton. There are now more than 100 company-owned and licensed freestanding Donna Karan Collection, DKNY and DKNY Jeans stores worldwide. |
