Born in Singapore, reared in Kathmandu, Nepal, and schooled at New Delhi’s National Institute of Fashion Technology, Gurung’s multi-national roots also include styling stops in Melbourne and London. A certifiable internationalist, Gurung began his career in New York interning for Donna Karan while attending Parsons. In his first year, he was named Best Designer at the annual Parsons/FIT design competition. Before launching his own business in 2009, he worked for Cynthia Rowley and then spent five years as design director at Bill Blass. In March, 2010, Prabal was nominated for the CFDA’s Swarovski Womenswear award.
